Dr Shehan Kariyakaranage – Associate Osteopath

Shehan completed his studies at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, graduating with a bachelor of Health Science & Applied Science (Osteopathy).

Shehan has been involved in a variety of sports over the years including AFL, cricket and tennis. His interest in sports and its associated injuries is ultimately what drove his passion for Osteopathy.  Shehan adopts a holistic and largely structural approach in treating both acute and chronic injuries.

Shehan holds a level 1 & 2 dry needling certificate, which he utilises in his Osteopathic treatments. He combines this with various soft tissue, muscle energy (stretching), articulatory, high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) and indirect techniques to treat patients young and old.

Shehan believes in addressing the underlying cause of an injury to prevent its reoccurrence. He enjoys treating a variety of conditions including the back, neck and shoulder pain, headaches and sporting related injuries.

Shehan currently holds a Level 1 strength and conditioning accreditation from the Australian strength and conditioning association (ASCA). His previous experience as an S&C coach allows him to develop individualised training and stretching programs to rehabilitate and prevent injuries, whilst also improving athletic performance.

In his spare time Shehan enjoys training in the gym, watching a variety of sports and spending time with his wife and dog. He also enjoys travelling; having most recently been to Japan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.Shehan works at our Alexandra Hills clinic from Monday to Thursday.
