Looking for Clinical Exercise (Pilates) in New Farm or Brisbane?

Here at Move we offer Clinical Exercise (formerly known as Clinical Pilates) at our Brisbane City and James Street New Farm Clinic. We service the Brisbane City area as well as New Farm, Fortitude Valley, Newstead and Teneriffe and Brisbane Inner North.

Group Clinical Exercise Class (New Farm Clinic only)

Our small group classes are run with a maximum of 3 people. This ensures that our Physiotherapist is able to individualise, guide and challenge you throughout your class.

Prior to booking into class, a 1:1 Clinical Exercise Initial Assessment with our Physiotherapist is required. This will allow the Physiotherapist to learn of any issues you may have, understand your goals and design classes that are specifically tailored to you.

Our 1:1 Clinical Exercise Initial Assessments and Group Clinical Exercise classes are claimable on private health insurance as they are taken by a Physiotherapist.

Private and Semi-Private Clinical Exercise

For those looking to focus on their goals and needs privately or with a friend, family member or partner, our 1:1 and 1:2 sessions offer a great way to do so. During these sessions our Physiotherapist or Osteopath will be able to work closely with you to focus on improving specific body areas, movements and technique.

Please note that it is required to have a 1:1 Clinical Exercise Initial Assessment with one of our Physiotherapists or Osteopaths prior to booking Private and Semi-Private sessions.

All 1:1 sessions with our Physiotherapist or Osteopaths are claimable on private health insurance however 1:2 sessions are only claimable if booked with our Physiotherapist.

Questions

How do I book a class?

All Initial Assessments, Group Clinical Exercise Classes, Private and Semi-Privates may be booked online through our website or via calling the clinic on 38540087.

What happens if I need to cancel or want to reschedule my class?

Firstly it is no problem to cancel or reschedule a class. We do however have a late cancellation policy which will apply if you have to cancel or reschedule a class with the 24 hour window prior to your class start time and full class fee will be charged. We appreciate your understating and cooperation with this policy as we have limited places available and from the time you book your class that spot is held exclusively for you and becomes unavailable for anyone else to access.

What should I wear?

Because you will be moving we recommend comfortable close-fitting active wear. Teachers focus on correct technique and precision of movement therefore it is important for them to see the way the body is moving. Socks are essential for the Pilates studio and therefore must be worn for hygiene reasons. Socks with grip on the underside are recommended and also can be purchased for low cost at the clinic. We also recommend that you bring a towel and water bottle.

Is there somewhere safe I can leave my personal belongings during class?

Yes, we have a storage unit in the studio where your belongings will be safe and within your field of vision.

How long will it take before I get results?

If you are doing two or more Pilates classes per week you may experiences changes quite quickly and will certainly feel the differences in the first 10-12 sessions. Even if you come only once per week you will progress but obviously more slowly and we consider one session per week to be more for maintenance as opposed to change and growth.

I have a bad back/shoulder/hip/knee, is Clinical Exercise safe for me?

Absolutely! Firstly pilates is an ideal form of movement for the recovery and strengthening of a whole range of injuries and movement issues. If you are in pain we do recommend you see one of our Osteopaths or physiotherapist first for a diagnosis and treatment and to determine whether it is appropriate to start a Pilates program. Once you are given clearance to start a program your Osteopath will consult with your Pilates teacher to ensure your program is specifically designed to meet your needs.

Can I combine Clinical exercise with other exercise programs?

Yes, it is a fantastic complimentary practice for so many other movement practices and sports. In fact, because of its focus on core strengthening and whole body strength and also flexibility, Pilates is a popular training method for most people.

Is Clinical Exercise (formerly known as Clinical Pilates) the same as yoga?

Some exercises may be similar to Yoga movements however the principles are generally very different. The Pilates work performed on Pilates equipment, such as the Reformer, is very different to yoga, as the use of springs is employed to create added resistance.
